Our discourse, our space
‘Namma Maathu, Namma Jaaga‘ translates from Kannada to mean, ‘Our Discourse, Our space’. We borrow this phrase to name IT for Change’s two-year field project, which began in March 2018. With the support of the Edelgive Foundation, this project seeks to build a supportive community ecosystem for prevention and redress for all forms of gender-based violence against women and girls across 25 villages of H.D. Kote in the Mysuru district.
‘Namma Maathu’ is a monthly meeting that acts as a safe space for women’s groups to dialogue on women’s rights, gender justice and violence against women. ‘Namma Jaaga‘ help desks are set up at information and anganwadi centres to provide needs-based and women-centred counselling for women.
